Established in 2016, Robert Black is a native Washingtonian with more than 20 years of experience practicing architecture in the Washington, DC metropolitan area and Winter Park, Colorado. His background spans design-focused residential architecture, as well as light commercial, sustainable, and historic projects.
Inspired by architecture throughout Washington, DC, the Eastern Shore, the American Northeast, and the Rocky Mountain region, Robert’s work is rooted in traditional forms thoughtfully integrated with modern elements. His design approach emphasizes functionality, quality, and craftsmanship, with each project guided by a careful balance of scope, site constraints, budget, and clear communication. Attention to detail and collaboration are central to his process.
Robert has extensive experience with new construction, residential additions, and renovations, as well as projects involving local historic preservation commissions and complex regulatory requirements. His experience navigating varied sites, jurisdictions, and approval processes allows him to approach each project with an understanding of the unique design and regulatory considerations of each location.
He is an award-winning, registered Architect and a member of the American Institute of Architects and the AIA Potomac Valley Chapter.
Robert lives in Montgomery County, Maryland, with his wife and two children. Outside the office, he is an avid hockey player and youth hockey coach.
